About Us

Every story starts with a letter. In Arabic, that letter is Alef, the first in the alphabet, the beginning of language, the spark of connection. Every coffee starts with a bean, the seed that becomes warmth in a cup, a reason to gather, and a moment to pause.

At Alef & Bean, we bring the two together: the letter and the bean, the story and the sip. Our café is built on the idea that coffee is more than caffeine. It is conversation, culture, and community. It is where old traditions meet new ideas, where Egyptian roots sit comfortably alongside modern flavors, and where every cup carries a little piece of heritage and a lot of heart.

Whether you come for the aroma of freshly ground beans, the comfort of mint tea, or the simple joy of sitting together at a table, we hope you will find your own beginning here. Welcome to Alef & Bean, where every cup tells a story.

We started Alef & Bean because our community was missing a true third place. In the Houston/Katy/Fulshear area, immigrant families like ours crave somewhere to gather that isn’t just another restaurant or an occasional park. We often go out in large groups — five or six families at a time, each with kids — and the options never feel right. Restaurants rush you, split checks are a headache, and there’s rarely space for kids to play or for adults to actually relax.

At Alef & Bean, we wanted to solve that. We’re creating a space where people can linger, laugh loudly, and feel at home. A café that feels both familiar and fresh — with coffee and tea at the center, round tables that encourage connection, and a lounge-like atmosphere where no one feels pressured to leave. Storytelling details that hint at where we come from without overwhelming the space. We want the café to feel like a true third place: warm, communal, and timeless.

We’re proud of our Egyptian and Arabic roots, and we want that heritage reflected in our design. But we also don’t want to create just another hookah lounge with predictable décor. Instead, we’re aiming for something modern and welcoming, with subtle, intentional touches of Arabic culture woven into a space that feels artisan, contemporary, and approachable. For us, coffee is just the beginning. What we’re really offering is belonging.
